CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character Name: Hvitserk RagnarssonCanon: Vikings
Canonpoint: Post Season 5, Ep. 10.
Character Age: 21
Appearance: -
Background/History: Wikia
Strengths:
Eager: Easily one of Hvitserk's most defining features and a driving force for him. He's eager to please, eager to receive recognition and praise, eager to be accepted and eager to be valued. He's honestly a bit like a dog in this respect. It makes him pliable and easy to manipulate, but it also makes him very endearing. Most of the time, receiving these things he yearns for is more than enough of a reward for any amount of loyalty and hard work.
Even-tempered + Good-humored: These two traits go hand in hand. They're both something of a rarity among Vikings and make him one of the more mellow and passive siblings amongst his brothers. He's not easily goaded into confrontations, usually laughing or shrugging off most insults. Even when his younger brother Ivar openly mocked him in front of their army, he ended up walking away instead of losing his temper. His good-humored nature is almost happy go lucky at times, seemingly unconcerned by most problems. Interestingly, he often times seems almost baffled by those who don't share this same ability as if he expects everyone to be able to simply let problems or hurtful words roll off them unaffected like he can. He can take a joke and forgets others sometimes aren't so good-humored, which has ended with a dagger pressed to his throat on occasion.
Agreeable + Open-minded: It really doesn't take much to convince Hvitserk that an idea is a good one and he often doesn't have opinions of his own to offer. Being something of a neutral party in most debates, he tends to see the merits behind most suggestions and will happily go along with something that sounds like a good plan. If you need someone around to nod along happily to your crazy plans, Hvitserk is the guy to have around. Now adding a good dose of curiosity to his agreeable, passive nature and you have a very open-minded individual on your hands. Who else would agree to join his brother when he wants to sail into parts unknown because he found a strange map? Or enter into a polyamorous relationship with another brother (and his brother's new wife) because they both like the same woman?
Weaknesses:
Fickle: So far in canon, he's attempted to latch on to various people. He tried exploring and raiding exotic, unknown lands with his older brother, but was just as happy returning home. He followed his other older brother for a while, albeit blindly, and this led him to an embarrassing defeat. He then literally jumped ship and switched loyalties again, this time to his younger brother, which turned out be a pretty bad decision, one he started to second guess almost immediately. Basically, Hvitserk has a classic middle child syndrome. He's searching for an identity and constantly shifting loyalties at the drop of a hat only to regret his hasty decisions later.
Stubborn: Although rare, Hvitserk does, at times, make a decision or plan on a course of action that he's come up with all on his own. In those cases, he tends to stick with his decision steadfastly even when better opportunities might be waved in his face. He won't argue that his course of action is the best (usually it's not), but he will stubbornly refuse to deviate from it. And, like his father, he has a very difficult time admitting that a choice he has made was a bad one even when it is obvious, even to him, that it was.
Naive: Unlike his other brothers, Hvitserk doesn't seem to have inherited his father's sharp wits and knack for political manuevering. In fact, Hvitserk seems almost completely oblivious to the art of subtle manuevering and lying even going so far as to ask one of his brothers why he'd promised something to someone and then acting baffled when he was told that they'd been empty promises to ensure the person's alliance. He also seems to be almost overly optimistic about situations he finds himself in or in his dealings with people.
Unassertive: Hvitserk has never gotten into an argument in canon. He often times has reactions to arguments, usually disapproving reactions, but he never actually expresses his opinions or chides anyone. Although he might wishfully think of himself as someone who might be able to lead, he is a follower through and through. In most debates it isn't even that he isn't expressing his opinions, he simply doesn't have any. He's perfectly content listening to the ideas that others throw out and agree with them and even then he can be easily swayed to follow someone else's plan. He's incredibly nonconfrontational, often times accepting things he doesn't even agree with or even accepting unwarranted abuse without argument.
Callous: Although he’s usually very quiet and agreeable, he has a much darker, angrier side. There is something cold and cruel that revels in violence within him. This could just be part of his innate personality or a subconscious failure to deal with the trauma he endured as a child. Regardless, he's markedly different when on the battlefield, entering an almost berserker-like frame of mind and becoming a compassionless force to be reckoned with even killing one of his brother's sons, revelling in unnecessary violence and happily partaking in torture and rape. His callousness can also extend off the battlefield. Although he doesn't necessarily go out of his way to treat those who are 'beneath him' cruelly, he often partakes in behaviour that would be frowned upon in the modern age such as raping enemy civilians or treating servants and slaves as less than human.
Fatal Flaw: He lacks direction and identity in his life.
Driving Force: At the moment, Hvitserk is seeking a role model and leader. He seems deeply conflicted about his life choices and almost directionless in his life. He’s a natural follower but without a leader who he can respect and who respects him in return. He needs to be someone’s right-hand man, special, needed, wanted, relied upon. Subconsciously, he wants to be someone’s invaluable supporter. Without that person, he feels lost and uncertain as to where he belongs. Though he doesn't necessarily know what kind of person he wants to follow, it needs to be someone who shares his ideals, which mirror those of most Viking, bravery, fearlessness, loyalty, and strength.
Patron: Vulcan seems to have the most traits that line up with Hvitserk's own. First off, there is the hard working, narrow focus that the blacksmith god exhibits combined with good-natured kindness. Hvitserk exhibits these same traits, though focused more on fighting and his family than on craft and community. He also shares a handful of Vulcan's negative traits, especially insecurity, though he exbihibts the others as well to a lesser degree.
GAME INFORMATION
Setting Suitability: First off, Hvitserk believes in the existence of his own gods and would likely see something like gods calling on people as something that was within the realm of possibilities. Possible, but a very rare honor. Which is why there would be no way he'd turn down the offer. He'd agree for the chance at glory and fame alone. As for fighting a war in a foreign land, he's a Viking, that's what he does. Hvitserk also meets the mental maturity requirements.Sample: TDM
